Why We Created This Handbook
The prevalence of eating disorders is rising, and adolescence is the most common age of onset.
As a school professional, you may experience eating disorder’s profound impact on a student’s ability to learn and focus. Watching a thriving student succumb to disengagement, poor performance, and social isolation is hard.
Alarmingly, eating disorders have the second highest mortality rate of all mental health disorders. Early detection is highly influential in a successful recovery.
The rapport between a school professional and a student with an eating disorder can be life-saving.
We created this handbook for those working closely with this population to identify warning signs, as well as learn how to inspire and support change.
